FSSC 22000

FSSC 22000
FSSC 22000 - dedicated to food manufacturers and is an upgrade of ISO 22000. The content has been benchmarked by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). The FSSC 22000 – Food Safety System Certification 22000 is a complete Certification Scheme for Food Safety Management Systems managed by the non-profit Dutch Organization Foundation for Food Safety Certification. It is based on the International Standard ISO 22000 ‘Food Safety Management Systems- Requirements for any organization in the food chain’ and the ISO/ TS 22002-1:2009 ‘Prerequisite programmes on food safety for food manufacturing’.

The FSSC 22000 may be applied to the food chain organizations activated in food manufacturing (primary production, crop production and feed manufacturing is not included). A-brands like Nestle, Danone, Kraft, Unilever etc, leaded in the development of the new Scheme while some major retailers (Wal-Mart, Carrefour, Tesco, Metro, Migros, Ahold, Delhaize) agreed to accept the recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) Standards.
The Food Safety System Certification 22000 Scheme is fully recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) since 23.02.2010 and is acceptable as equal with BRC and IFS.

An organization, in order to be certified according to the FSSC 22000 has to fulfill the requirements of ISO 22000, the precise requirements set by ISO/ TS 22002-1:2009 for the prerequisite programmes (construction and layout of buildings, layout of premises, utilities of air, water and energy, waste disposal, equipment suitability, cleaning and sanitizing, staff hygiene, etc), as well as the additional requirements of FSSC 22000.Manufacturers that are already certified according to ISO 22000 will only need an additional review according to ISO/ TS 22002-1:2009 to meet FSSC 22000
